In this introductory series, we’ll be exploring ways of performing Shakespearean scenes with a fun, contemporary edge. This course is best suited to beginners and those who feel they need a refresher on their Shakespeare skills. We’ll be looking at various theatre skills including characterisation, ensemble work and text analysis.  If you are unsure if you are suited to this course, please drop us an email and we’ll be glad to advise. You must be comfortable performing in English.

We will begin by working on general performance skills and testing out various Shakespeare scenes, investigating bold, exciting ways in which we can interpret them using the original text. Our company is known for finding fresh and original contexts for Shakespeare’s work, and we will be doing the same here.
Later on, we will be designating scenes between the members of our ensemble, which we will then develop and into a fully realised showpiece.

This class is for performers who already have some level of experience performing Shakespeare- most likely you have attended theatre classes (including ours) or performed in plays within the last five years.

Our classes will be every Tuesday from 20:00 to 21:30 pm (10 weeks)
Price: 200 EUR, to be paid either in one or two instalments..
There will be a maximum of ten participants per class, on a first-come first-served basis.

To reserve your place, please email info@shakespeare-reloadedberlin.com. We will reply to each person with details on how to pay until places fill up. In this instance, we’ll create a wait-list too.
If you would like to be involved but need a more flexible payment schedule, please let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate.

In our Shakespeare Comedies class, we’ll be developing our comedic skills using materials from Shakespeare’s most popular comedies. Across the ten weeks, we’ll look at different aspects of nailing those difficult comedic scenes, including text analysis, characterisation, comic timing, physicality and voice work. Comedy is ironically often one of the harder skillsets to master, so we’ll work in small groups with the intention of creating a fun, relaxed space in which we can try out different approaches without worrying about whether your delivery is successful on the first try.

We will try out different scenes each week, using various training exercises to influence the performance. We may look at texts from playwrights including Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, Alan Bennett and Simon Stephens, and you also will get the opportunity to suggest any texts you’d like to perform.

FAQs

Who are you?

We are a Berlin-based theatre ensemble dedicated to reshaping classic theatre texts (yes, mainly Shakespeare) into exciting contemporary concepts. We perform shows in Berlin, and in 2019 we toured to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. We are currently keen to expand our ensemble so if you are considering joining but have further questions, please do send us a message and we'd be glad to help.

I want to join this course but I am not available on ‘X' date, can I still take part?

Yes, please inform us as early as possible if you will miss any dates. You will still need to pay the full amount in order to cover our room and running costs.

Do I need to prepare anything?

No preparation needed. Please make sure that you wear comfortable clothes to rehearse in, and bring water if you need it. We aren’t allowed outdoor shoes inside the studio, so please bring whatever socks or alternative footwear you feel most comfortable with.

When are you doing a full theatre production?

We’re currently planning a small show for winter 2021 and a larger production in early 2022. If you would like to keep up to date with these shows, please make sure to follow us on social media, however we generally work with people who have already interacted with us as a company. That’s one of the reasons we’re keen to expand our ensemble via the classes this year.

What if there are further COVID-19 issues?

All participants will need to provide proof of full vaccination, proof of infection within the last 6 months, or a valid negative rapid test before each class. In the instance of any lockdowns or new government rules, we will refund participants for any classes we need to cancel.

Please note that we'll register your details for Contact-Tracing purposes and will provide this to the Gesundheitsamt if needed.
